The Society has a number of ongoing projects to index the Registration District marriage registers.

Currently the Cheltenham Registration District (which also covers the Tewkesbury area) is complete (1837-2003). The Gloucester and the Stroud indexes are ongoing but now have substantial coverage.

Each index shows the Groom and Brides names, year and location of marriage and the Registrars Reference to enable a certificate to be ordered, if required, from the appropriate Registrars Office. (It does not give the exact date of marriage or the names of the fathers or the witnesses.) The fee provides for one A4 print-out for a specific name in a specific Registration District, either a Bride or Groom name e.g. Richard Smith or Jane Smith. We will also search for one surname if required and an estimate of the costs involved can be provided on receipt of an SAE. All extra sheets will be charged at 30p each. All applications must be accompanied by an SAE, or an addressed envelope and 2 IRCs.

The Society has almost 20,000 strays records, that is records of Gloucestershire people in other parts of the country or overseas. The fee covers an index search for a single surname (no variants). The results are provided on one A4 printout. All applications must be accompanied by a SAE or an addressed envelope & 2 IRCs.
