After 10 years at Spread Eagle Court, our Family History Centre has moved to the Frith building on the same site as Gloucestershire Archives. This new location will make it very easy to combine a visit to our Centre and the Archives.

The Centre is open to members and non-members of the society alike and entry is free of charge although donations are welcome. These are used to help with the running costs of the centre and to purchase additional resources.

Our President, Colin Chapman with The Right Worshipful The Mayor of Gloucester - Councillor Chris Witts, who is about to open our new Family History Centre.

The Reception :-

This is where visitors initially arrive to be greeted by our welcoming and helpful volunteers. You will see a number of general family history books displayed which can be purchased. The society also holds a stock of local books for sale.

The Library :-

This contains hundreds of titles and covers a wide range of family history topics. The library also contains family history journals from many other societies as well as monthly family history magazines. Click here for the full library catalogue

The Main Research Room :-

This is where visitors are likely to spend most of their time.

This room has plenty of computers with free internet access. All the society’s computer based information is available on these machines. Prints of any information can be made for a small charge.

There are also several microfiche readers enabling access to a vast array of material on fiche. There are also printing facilities available for anyone wanting copies, again a small charge is made.

It is important to note that the material available for research is not confined to Gloucestershire but covers many other counties. Click here for full details of research material available on computer or fiche

The Centre is manned entirely by volunteers of the Society.

Do you want to have fun, meet new friends and make a difference!

Why not join our band of volunteers. If you can spare anything from three hours a month to one day a week then please contact the Resource Centre Co-Ordinator.

We hope that you will come and visit us in our Centre and enjoy your research there.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy our hobby. If you have a disability, our volunteers will be pleased to give you some help. If you have any concerns about visiting our centre, then please phone us. If required, we can arrange for a dedicated helper, or for searches of our resources to be done on your behalf.

We welcome comments on how we can continue to improve the Centre and the services it provides.
